Dark clouds blanketed the sky. The wind was beginning to pick up, slowly but it was nonetheless. The wind brushed against the rolling waves that washed against the shore. The sand was coarse, as if it had been formed by the waves washing up against the cliff for centuries. It was a beautiful sight, even with the threat of an oncoming storm. There were bits of dried up driftwood dotting the nearly perfect landscape along with pieces of trash that people had just tossed on the beach. It was slightly annoying but one couldn't help the ignorance of the whole. Things would have to change. It would take some time as you could only change the way things are one person at a time.
Walking along the beach just out of reach of the water, was a young girl. She looked a bit young to be without some sort of family but there was none to be found. She walked along the beach slowly, taking in the natural beauty of the place but feeling slightly annoyed at the objects that littered the beach. The wind gusted again, blowing the girl's long dark hair about. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath of the ocean air, letting the breeze wash away at her mind, calming her. The breeze ruffled the dark vest she wore over a white, long sleeved shirt and brushed along her knee length dark skirt. Her tie was tucked in the vest, safe from the wind. She knew it gave her the appearance of this innocent little girl who was just wandering into trouble but right now she didn't care. She is what she is, even if that means she's nothing but a school girl. With a sigh, she dismissed the errant thoughts in her mind and looked down, catching a glimpse of the glove on her right hand. It was the color of darkened mahogany with lines that were the color of oil along it. It was supposed to help her control what she could do but even so, she still seemed to lack control.
The sky grew darker as she became more absorbed in her thoughts while walking straight into the worst part of the beach. She stopped abruptly as her eyes caught the sight of the beach. It was horrifying that no one seemed to care for the land they lived in. Even though she wasn't from around here she decided that it would probably be best to try and clean some of this up. What better way to clean up this mess of flammable materials than to burn it? She raised her right hand slowly and snapped her fingers, the friction causing a minuscule spark that no one could see except in total darkness. As the sound rang in the air, the pile of rubbish around her would begin to burn. With a wave of her hand, the flames would extend to the rest of the burnables around her. She snapped her fingers again, this time when the sound rang in the air the flames would die as quickly as they had started. She smiled faintly as the breeze carried the ashes away. There was still quite a bit more to burn but it would take a little bit of time before it was completely free of anything burnable.

The sky was filled with dark clouds, a storm was brewing, it made the demon feel all tingly. She could feel the electricity building in the sky above, just readying to crash down and strike whoever happened to be in its way. A grin spread across the girls face as she pulled at her dress, flattening any creases. Today was a trip to the beach, families usually brought their children down here. Nothing was better then torturing parents and making their children watch, Echo thought so anyways. Hovering in the air to avoid dirtying her lovely silk slippers, the silver haired girl made her way down toward the stormy shore. Water crashing onto the sandy beach, cloud swirling as if threatening to cry it rain down upon them. The girl looked down along the beach, no one was to be found but a girl that seemed all on her own. Echo watched her for a bit, curious as to why a young girl was out all alone. Probably thinking the same thoughts most people thought about Echo when she wandered around.
Was she an orphan? There were many of those these days, perhaps she was just a rebellious child. Hovering closer Echo noticed that she was setting fire to the bits of trash around her, how exciting! A child that could use magic! The demon let out a little fit of giggles before landing on a log that was probably washed up onto shore.
"Oh how pretty a girl all on her own," Echo began in a sing-a-song voice. "Setting fire to rubbish before the rain can soak each stone." Wanting to join in on the fun before the rain could ruin it all, Echo brought her hand up into the air and cast down a bolt of electricity onto a log near the other girl. The dry log cracked leaving burn marks down it and started to smoke. "Oh what fun! Clever, clever girl!" Echo practically squealed spinning in a circle on the driftwood that she stood. "How did I not think of this before?" the demon spoke to herself, extending her arms and continuing to spin. The wind picked up around her as she did so, threatening to blow the fire all the way down the beach.

She stopped for a moment when the wind shifted, it wasn't a natural occurrence and it startled her for a second. It was almost as if someone were messing with the wind. It was when she made this observation that nothing could have prepared her for the bolt of lightning that struck down beside her. The bolt hit a piece of driftwood near her but it was shocking enough to make her jump. She hadn't expected lightning yet but there was something wrong about it. Looking up at the sky she did notice that it seemed to be getting darker, as if all light behind the clouds had been snuffed out. Glancing back at the driftwood, she would notice it had started to smolder and the wind was starting to fan the flames. Should this carry on the flames would go down the entire beach. Giggling, that was the sound the wind carried as it gusted from behind her.
She turned around and what was before her seemed vaguely amusing. There was a silver haired girl twirling on a piece of driftwood and the wind seemed to flow about her as if she could manipulate it. Sparing a glance at the growing flames, she'd snap her fingers again and the flames would dispel. There was a moment of silence when the flames had been snuffed. The silence soon giving way to the sound of rolling thunder. Taking a step towards the strange silver haired girl, she'd speak, her voice echoing the suspicion her gaze held. "Who are you and what brings you here?" she asked as the wind tried to blow her words away.

Even after the other snuffed out the flames Echo twirled a little bit longer, her hair flowing around in the wind that she created. Enjoying her fun as the thunder rumbled through the air and the real storm finally began. Rain began to fall from the sky, first starting in little droplets on leaving little dark spots in the sand and on the dry logs. Soon the water began to fall harder turning into somewhat of a shower, rains like this weren't uncommon around these parts. Another thunder clap and the silver haired girl seemed to stop on a dime. Perfectly timed too, almost as if the storm knew that the other had begun to move toward the demon. Hovering upward Echo did a little flip before landing in a sitting position on the log. Placing her hands behind her as if bracing herself, Echo leaded forward before addressing the girl.
"Who am I? What am I doing here?" Echo's tone was almost mocking of the girls. "I know who I am, I am Echo." The demon tilted her head as if trying to figure the girl out. "And I know that I live here but you do not." A michivious smile spread across the girl's face. "Who are you and what brings you here?" Echo mocked the girls words in a sing-a-song voice. Pulling at the lace on her sleeve the girl waited for her answer, if the other was clever she would notice that Echo dressed much too nice to be a commoner or a rebel. Many seemed to not notice this when the demon wandered about, her dress was close to what royalty might where. The girl looked back up at the raven haired girl, batting her eyes as if to try and seem innocent, though the red hue to them might have been her flaw. "You would imagine that someone so out of place wouldn't be questioning people in their own home."
The storm still roared, thunder clapping and lightening crawling along the dark clouds above. Even as the rain poured down on the beach the silver haired girl never seemed to be touched by a drop of it. As if the air around her would not let the wetness near the demon, blowing away any droplets before the could threaten the girl's dress or hair. Another giggle left the girls lips as she absentmindedly smoothed out her dress on her lap, as if she were worried the soft silk and lace was being wrinkled.

Echo. So that was what she called herself. The words Echo had spoken had been enough to stop her in her tracks. It was true she was a stranger to these parts but there was no need for the childish mockery. She opened her mouth to reply but then closed it. The only words she had were none too kind and it wouldn't be the best of responses to speak her mind right this moment. Choosing her words carefully she spoke again, this time a bit more formally but also slightly mocking. "I would apologize for my intrusion but i was unaware that such a public place was home to the likes of you," the words came easily and it disgusted her. She sounded so very much like her parents had before their untimely death. She smiled politely at Echo, the politeness seeming most sarcastic in this manner as it was intended to be. She ran a hand through her hair and let the wind comb it out. Rain. Usually one of the things that can douse a fire as well as ruin the fine pressed looks of a noble. Silk and lace. Such fine things were so simple to break, so simple to burn. She would know as she watched it happen once before.
She turned her back to the silver haired Echo with a wave of dismissal, that was common among many nobles, and began to walk away. It was childish for her to go back to such mannerisms and she knew that well enough. Her clothes may identify her as an outsider but were she back home, no one would dare mock her like that. She continued to walk away from Echo, stifling a laugh as she carried on her way. It was rude to turn your back to someone, at least by her family's standards. To her, she didn't really care. She did as she pleased and enjoyed herself while she did just that. After all, what's a little fun if you don't enjoy it?
With that thought, an idea sprang to mind. An idea that would serve one of two purposes. One, to test just how waterproof her abilities are. And two, to put that little whelp back in her place. She smiled rather smugly, glad that the girl with the silver hair couldn't see it and raised her hand. A quick snap of her fingers and the log burned from the inside out, without any signs of combustion or any warning. The action was more childish than anything she'd done in a few years and it made her happy. She wasn't really picking on the girl, was she? More like....teaching her a lesson.

So the girl decided to mock back, Echo cocked and eyebrow, it was nice to see that someone was willing to play back. The girl extended her arm and pretended to examine her nails, "everywhere around here is my home." The demon's tone was matter-of-fact, it was a statement that Echo thought everyone she know. This was her continent, she was here before any of the mortals that settle here. There were days when she was worshiped like a god, a pity that only a few centuries and all these humans could become so forgetful. She was up for a bit of playful banter but it looked as if the girl no longer wanted to play, turning her back on the demon. Dumb girl. Echo narrowed her eyes, the dull red seeming to glow as if something inside her was flaring up. Again the girl flipped this time staying hovered in the air, just as she had the log seemed to burst into flames. The demon's eyes grew wide, acting out of instinct the demon brought up her hands to shield her face. A blast of strong wind blew the fire toward the other girl, protecting the demon from any burns. The heat still tingled on her skin when Echo put her arms back down to her side, her eyes narrowed and her brows brought in as a clear indication of her rage.
"And I just wanted to have a little fun," Echo hissed between clenched teeth. The demon waved her hand just as thunder began to roar in the sky, two bolt of lightening stuck the ground. One before the other, one each side of the girl. The wind picked up around the demon again, blowing her silver hair up around her. Another strike of lightening. "Would you rather I play with your corps than your emotions?" The girl seemed to twirl in the air disappearing into a twister of wind before reappearing in front of the fire mage. "Oh with this much sass you much be some sort of noble human," the demon laughed. Waving her hand as if to dismiss the girl just like she had done to her. "To think I almost got mad," Echo sighed before letting out a giggle. "I sometimes forget how young your human's are." Another twirl and the silver hair girl seemed to fade away to another side of the beach, giggling like no insult had even passed.
Another pass of thunder before lightening again crawled along the dark clouds. The rebel village was probably locked up tight, protecting itself from the hard rainfall. "If you stay out in the rain you will catch cold," Echo shouted from across the beach, her voice teasing. She found it funny how weak the human condition seemed, so easily ended by something as silly as illness. "You're not likely to find blankets or soup around here, these folk don't share so easily. The demon waved an arm toward the direction of the rebel town, it was a poor settlement and on days like this they were busy keeping their children dry and warm.

She narrowed her eyes and watched Echo closely, her words seeming to sink in deep. "What are you exactly?" she asked, letting her curiosity get the better of her this time. It wasn't easy to disregard the comments and carry on as if nothing had happened but yet this....stranger, who claimed to own this entire land did it with ease. What a strange person. And people thought she was peculiar. "Tis truly a shame you haven't learned a thing about us humans," she stated, sarcasm dripping off her words, "If you had then maybe you'd know that not all of us are so weak. I for one am not one of your foolish little playthings and i most certainly am not so idiotic that i can't take care of myself. I don't need your pity, nor do i want it." Her words came out sharper than she had intended and she didn't quite know what would occur now that she had fallen back into her old habits. Old habits die hard...how true that saying was. The more she talked with this person the more frustrated she got. That was never a good thing. She had little to no control over her powers when she was upset and this girl was beginning to get on her nerves. You could almost see the chaos that would follow if she were to lose control somewhere that was....well populated. Sparks of flame danced around her clenched fists and danced on the ground around her. The change in the air was noticeable as well. The air surrounding her took on a shimmer, as if you were walking through desert air. It was superheated enough that the rain evaporated around her before it came within an inch of her.
Something on the beach seemed to be bothered by the either the storm or the fact that the beach was beginning to catch on fire. Everything burnable that was within ten feet of her had began to catch fire, the wind blowing it down the beach extending how far the flames reached. Something was not happy with this. You could tell. The air seemed ominous, as if they were being watched. It was that same sense of dread that one gets when they're somewhere they shouldn't be. It was that same feeling that you broke into someone's home and destroyed their property. Something here didn't like the fact that the beach was burning and that something was approaching.
A black, distant shadow against the flames was growing closer. What to do? What. To. Do?

A faceless shadow closed in on the two girls, at first it seemed to be silent but as it drew closer a soft wailing or moaning seemed to carry on the wind. The form seemed to flicker, as if it were having difficulty keeping a solid form. It was obvious that this spectrum did not belong in this world, again it flickered this time taking the form a boy. Raven haired with emerald eyes that seemed to stare right through the two girls, a long finger extended as if accusing the two girls.
"You, you did this!" the ghost shouted. He flickered again closing in on the silver hair demon first, trying to clutch the girls dress and pull her to him. "You can't hurt anyone anymore..." the boys voice seemed to whip with the wind. "I'll end you!" Raising his arm, a dagger appeared in it, looking just about as solid as the ghost did. The whole form flickered as he tried to slash down with his dagger. "DEMON!"

A grin spread across the demon's face as she heard frustration bubble up in the girl's voice. She seemed so ready to defend her race, Echo giggled moving closer to the girl but not so close to be burned. The demon could feel the air heat up around the raven haired girl, another twirl and giggle.
"You are quite amusing, what do you plan on doing? Burning up the whole beach? How wonderful!" the demon squealed, extending her arms as if she wanted to embrace the girl. "Oh what fun we could h-" the girl cut herself off turning to see where the wailing was coming from. At first her expression was bored as if it was a mild interest of hers until she saw what it was that the wailing was coming from. As if on cue the thunder roared in the sky, the girl's mouth twitch into a smirk, the storm really did know how to make things more dramatic than they were. Watching closely as the black figure morphed into a boy Echo's eyes went wide, ghosts? There weren't any ghosts on this beach. It was then that the spirit began yelling at the demon, pointing accusing fingers. Echo shook her head, "do I know you?" When the ghost flickered toward her and grabbed her by her dress she almost let out a yelp, human's she could deal with but this spectrum was something different.
A dagger appeared in the ghost's hand and on instinct the demon twirled up into her little tornado and vanished from the ghost's grasp. Appearing some distance behind the girl Echo regrouped, she would use the girl as a shield if she had to. "You wrinkled my dress!" Echo yelled, her eyes narrowed and she extended her arm. Grasping at the air as lightening struck the ground, a scythe appeared in the in place of the lightening. It handle white and crystal blade, "hello Sly..." The girl pulled the blade close to her face, sliding her hand down the side of it as if it were some pet. If the ghost tried to cut her again she would use a much larger blade.

A ghost. With a knife. She almost bit back a laugh as to how foolish it looked but then a single word it yelled caught her attention. Demon. It called Echo a demon. She'd had her fair share of encounters with demons but none of them looked so human. She felt like she'd been played for a fool and just the thought of that got under her skin. It aggravated her beyond belief but she remained silent as the ghost reached for Echo and attempted to stab her. As Echo created a small tornado to escape its grasp the flames burned hotter and shifted. They held a strange quality to them and an even stranger light. They flickered but not in the usual array of reds and oranges but in shades that would even make a rainbow pale in comparison. The flames erupted as if trying to swallow everything in its path, including the ghost. As the flames began to eat away at the ghost, she pulled out one of the daggers that were hidden by the sleeves of her shirt and used it to slice her left hand open. The blood ran down her hand and dripped onto the flames. The air went silent except for a sizzle that turned the flames black. Even being near the flames was enough to cause a burn but yet the girl stood amongst them easily. "You...Go back to Hell where you belong!" she yelled at the ghost. The flames responded to her voice and seemed to explode in an outrage. She flicked a hand at the cliff to her left and the flames traveled up the cliff, forcing a large boulder to come falling down, threatening to crush her if she didn't move. She didn't move. Instead she held a hand up as if to catch the boulder. Flames flew upwards at the mere movement of her hand and surrounded the boulder as it came down. She caught the boulder with some strain and hurled it at the ghost while it was distracted by the flames that were devouring it. With that, she smiled a rather twisted smile that seemed proud of the destruction she'd wrought. A silent moment passed before she laughed. It was a joyous laugh that would make her shudder upon remembering this moment.
She turned to look at the demon who stood behind her, the wicked smile only slightly faded. "Shame it wasn't a bit stronger. I would have loved to let it see what I could really do," she said sounding a bit too happy for the normal person. She spun around and laughed again, this time waving a hand as if to dismiss the flames. The fire slowly bled back to its usual color and then died out. "A most unusual day. In a most unusual place" she said quietly.

Everything all seemed to happen so fast, the demon disappearing right out of the ghosts grasp. He could do little more than slash at the air in frustration before flickering again. The demon was hiding behind a little girl, how pathetic of her. The ghosts fast twisted with anger, a moan drifted through the air as the ghost was about to attempt an attack again. He was prepared for what happened next though, the girl seemed to have a great talent for manipulating fire. Before the ghost could even think to flicker away the girl had set a bolder ablaze and thrown it at him.
As the giant piece of flaming earth fell upon him the ghost let out a loud wail. Something like a shock wave erupted from where the rock landed as the ghost disappeared from existence forever.

Echo watch, eyes glowing with delight, as the girl cast her spell. Sending the flaming boulder down on the ghost, the demon couldn't help but burst into a fit of giggles. Twirling in circles until the girl put out her fire, "oh what a wonderful show!" Twirling around Echo began to dance in the air, circling the girl, her hair fanning out in the air. Another thunder clap sounded in the sky as Echo tossed her scythe in the air letting it dissolve into electricity. The demon dove at the girl wrapping her arms around her, "I think I am in love!" Hugging the girl tight Echo let out a little giggle.
"Such destruction, such lovely chaos!" pulling away from the girl and hold her by the shoulders the demon smiled sweetly. "We could have such fun together," tilting her head to the side Echo stared at the girl's face as if the judge her reaction. Nothing sounded more wonderful to her than having a friend to join in on the chaos, letting go of the girl the demon brought her hands together as if she was pleading. "Oh please, oh please," Echo started her face all sweet and happy. "We can play and we can be best friend!" Again the demon started to twirl around the beach, dancing and singing, like a bard singing the tale of Saya's destructive magic.
The rain slowly began to let up, the clouds seeming to get lighter as if promising to disappear but there was no such luck. An overcast remained, fluffy light grey clouds, like cotton candy in the sky. "With each storm come destruction," the demon murmured still twirling, her arms extended as the skirt of her dress fanned out. "Wonderful chaos..." the words came out in a sigh.

She flinched slightly as the demon hugged her. It was unexpected and definitely something to worry about. She watched the demon revel in the chaos that she had caused. It was too similar to what had happened at home. Too similar. Glancing around she saw the damage she had inflicted on the once serene, once peaceful beach. Disturbing. That was the only word that came to mind when she saw the damage she had done. She dropped her eyes to the ground and breathed a quiet sigh. It wasn't a sigh of relief, more like a sigh of sadness. Such destruction, all because she had lost her temper. "You don't get it. I could have done so much... I could have..." She said quietly, her left hand gripping her right arm at the elbow. It was the classic sign for either embarrassment or shame. In this case it was shame. "I never meant to do this much damage..." Her words, although soft, were filled with horror at her own actions. She was disgusted with herself and nothing would change that. She lifted her gaze to meet the demon's, her eyes reflecting the shadow of her horror along with a hint of fear.
Fear. Fear of losing control. Fear of letting yourself run wild. It all came down to that one word. Fear.
As of right now, her only fear was that this demon was going to try and push her beyond her control. If she hadn't regained control over her anger she would have done a lot more than burn the beach down. Had people been here, they would have been hurt, or worse. Killed.
The realization of what she could have done and what she had done, made its way into her mind and she ran. She ran in the opposite direction of the demon, for fear that it would continue to toy with her mind and emotions. Anymore toying and the little bit of sanity she held onto at this moment would be gone. She'd be nothing but a monster. A monster that, until she ran out of power, would do nothing but cause pain and suffering on anyone and anything around her. As she ran, a single tear would fall. What just happened here was a reminder to her of what could happen should she lose herself.

So distracted with how over joyed she was about all the destruction Echo had not even heard the girl murmur about not wanting to cause it all. The demon continued to dance about, she had not even noticed when the girl bolted off. Singing to herself the demon turned around to talk to the girl again but noticed she was gone, a frown played on her lips. Stopping everything she was doing, Echo turned about to see if the fire witch was still on the beach.
"Child? Where did you go?" the silver haired girl called out. The air around Echo picked up, blowing up in all directions around her as she got more and more frustrated. She had run away from her, even after she had offered to become friends with her. A sadness filled Echo as she sat down on a nearby log, was there no one willing to befriend her? She wasn't that bad was she?
A strike of electricity came down from the sky and Echo reached out to grab her crystal scythe. Forcing the bottom of it into the sand and letting it stand Echo stared at it as if in some sort of trance. "When we meet again and I won't give her the choice," the demon growled to herself. She wasn't going to let the girl get away that easy, she wanted the witch for herself.
Do humans even make good pets?
END THREAD !
